Safety Tip Tuesday: The Importance of Your OSHA 300 Log

It’s Safety Tip Tuesday! OSHA mandates that contractors ensure the availability and proper maintenance of fire extinguishers on job sites to safeguard worker safety. According to OSHA’s standards (29 CFR 1910.157), fire extinguishers must be easily accessible and placed within 75 feet of employee work areas, with clear signage indicating their location. They must be inspected monthly for functionality, and a thorough annual maintenance check is required. Employees must also receive training on proper fire extinguisher use as part of the overall fire prevention plan. OSHA further stipulates that the type of fire extinguisher provided should correspond to the specific fire hazards present on the job site, such as Class A, B, or C extinguishers for combustible materials, flammable liquids, or electrical fires, respectively. Adherence to these requirements not only ensures compliance but also protects lives in emergencies.
